Armed Forces Advantage finds Beach Homes for the Brave

Apr 09, 2008 in Veterans

If you or your family member served in OEF or OIF and you’re interested in a free weekend on a resort key in Florida, read on.

Tarpon Real Estate, Inc. in Placida, FL has set up vacation beach homes for veterans of OEF/OIF and they’re giving you a free resort weekend stay thanks to patriotic home and business owners in the area. All you have to do is get to the southwest coast of Florida and be prepared to enjoy some R&R. The company has set up lodging on the beach, a ferry ride to the key, dinner at a nice restaurant, and golf carts to get around. They don’t want anything from you. They just want to say thanks for serving our country and defending our freedom.

Oregon Offers Free Tuition for Some Family Members

Apr 04, 2008 in Children's Education, Veterans

Oregon state universities are offering free tuition for family members of veterans killed or 100% disabled since 9/11. There are other qualification requirements. We’ve attached information from the Oregon University System website as well as the application for this program. It is a horrible reality that many of our brothers and sisters did not make it back home or came back severely injured. This program can help their families continue on without concerns about higher education.

Recent Congressional Study Shows Vets Face Unemployment

Mar 26, 2008 in Armed Forces Branches, Education, Tips, Veterans

A study by Abt Associates showed 18% unemployment for servicemembers discharged from 2004-2006. Things haven’t been so rosy since then so we imagine the numbers might even worse today. The study also showed significantly more unemployment for veterans when compared to non-vets even when the demographics were broken down by sex, race, age, marital status, and education levels.

This is not good news for anyone looking to get out of the service soon.

Oregon Parks Offer Free Access to Active Duty and Disabled Vets

Mar 26, 2008 in Armed Forces Branches, Free for Military, Veterans

The state of Oregon has a deal for you! Active duty on leave (with papers, special liberty papers would probably work as well) and disabled veterans can camp or use day parks for free. You can camp for 5 days a time in one park and 10 days a month in all state parks. If you need to camp more, you can pay the going rate, and consider living off the grid permanently :)
More details can be found on the Oregon State website here.

This only applies to state parks not federal, county, or parks not operated by the state parks and recreation department. Go enjoy your armed forces advantage!™
