VA Health Care Report
I know this will come as a surprise to most of you - it did me as well. On July 16, 2006 Newsweek reported on massive changes in the VA health care system. I’d always thought of the VA as an option of last resort, but 19 months ago they were considered the best of the nation. I can’t imagine its changed that much in such a short period of time. I know Walter Reed has taken some hits lately but most of you know its run by the Department of Defense not the VA. I think most nonmilitary citizens combine the two systems in their minds and therefore sully the reputation of an apparently well run organization. I have had limited exposure to VA health care as I am active duty. I did get some care when the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) was closed where I lived. The VA actually saved my life in 1999 by finding a rare tumor and arranging a very quick surgery.
I know there are those of you who have stories about your care at the VA. Why don’t you post a comment and let other Vets and active duty folks know what you’ve found?
